We had Corinne’s 2 month appointment today complete with her shots…she screamed and cried but calmed down soon enough and did great. I, however, waited until I was driving in the car, and Corinne was facing the back of the car, to cry. I didn’t want her to see me. I am posting this a day early just in case moods and countenances are gloomy the next day or two as a result of the shots. That said, we have made it to a major milestone medically since she is now no longer considered a newborn at two months. She is a healthy two month old baby girl!
Here are the numbers: a whopping 14 pounds 3 1/2 ounces (still 100% and double her birth weight), 24 1/2 inches long (also 100%) and 15 1/4 inches of a head circumference. Most pediatricians want babies to be double their birth weight by four months. We are right on track and ahead of the game.
We have found some other new things about our girl this month.
1. Her smile is unreal! We melt every time. She is more and more consistently smiling at us and not just at random. (For my medically inclined friends, I know it is just a “social smile,” but God knew what he was doing when he planned this. It makes the sleep deprivation so much worth while.)
2. She is so strong! She has quickly figured out how to hold her head up. While still occasionally wobbly, she is so fun to watch. She also seems like she is trying to stand! Our pediatrician recommended we hold her up occasionally to give her legs the chance to strengthen. That didn’t take long. I think if she could, she would be running marathons. She presses down those legs and straightens her body like she is about to walk off. It has been a blast to watch her strengthen her little arms and legs flailing them around. She loves her knew Baby Einstein gym. She seems to have just started to figure out that she can bat at the toys. It’s not super coordinated yet, but we can tell it’s coming.
3. She is so alert. We have become even more attached to her as we realized she is more attached to us. She now recognizes our voices and our faces. When she is awake, she seems to rarely like to be held facing us, she wants to face out and see the world and watch what is going on around her.
4. As she smiles, she coos and grunts seemingly trying to talk. It is adorable to watch her struggle to get a sound out and then all of the sudden she’ll let out a 1 second “ooooh.” This girl has some lungs though! When (we think) she is tired and uncomfortable, she bursts out “Baaaaah!” to let us know.
5. After her little 3-4 day growth spurt, it seems she woke up trying to find her thumb. She hasn’t successfully found it yet, but her hand bats at her mouth and her mouth unsuccessfully tries to catch it. She ends up sucking on her hand or her sleeve. It’s hilarious.
6. Her hair is growing back! It still looks to be a light brown or auburn that is straight when dry but gets wavy when its wet…hmmm. We’ll see!
7. She is a champ when it comes to eating and sleeping. She had a little growth spurt last week where she was almost insatiably hungry all day….and all night for two or three days. Then, she practically slept for two days straight waking up only to nurse and smile at us for a few minutes.
8. She has successfully transitioned to her own room and crib. She quickly outgrew her Moses basket since she is so long, and she is a little noisy when she sleeps. She transitioned well, however, other than her unexpected growth spurt at the same time.
9. Her dainty hands are gaining more and more control, but they are still dainty and lady like. She is all girl as she slowly touches our face, necks, fingers, hair and all of the little burp cloths, pillows and blankets around her.
10. She is a cuddle bug. Everyone who holds her comments on how sweet she is, especially when she falls asleep. She snuggles under your neck and shoulder and goes limp. Josh will even put one of her arms around his neck to feel like she is hugging him at the same time (okay, I do it, too).
So, it seems we are doing well. Thank you for all of your prayers and concerns and phone calls. We love you all very much. Can’t wait to see you during the holidays!
